The right side of the image has a farmhouse and a barn. The ground around and beyond the farmhouse is darker in color from the soil content and access to water. In the foreground is a small wooden dam. The sides of the dam are up against a low-tiered wall of sand and rock, built into the embankment. Beyond the embankment, the pathway of the canal from the dam is visible as a dividing line between the the sagebrush area and the farmland area. The canal is identified as the Hinkle irrigation canal, located near Pendleton, Oregon. The house and barn are both constructed of wood. The barn is larger and in front of the house. Only the chimney and part of the roof and one side of the house are visible. There is a fence enclosing the buildings and part of the canal. There is a small white tent or cloth cover to the far right of the buildings. There are some other small structures and farm-related objects near the barn, but not clearly seen.   	Citation × Citation Citation Abstract Copy Title: An OAC chemistry class posing at the foot of the Chemistry Building, 1892 Author: Kerr, Betty Year: 1892 This chemistry class is shown on the steps of the new Chemistry Building (also known at the time as the Laboratory or Station Building; now known as the Women's Center) soon after its completion in early 1892. According to the 1891-92 catalog, the new building had "thirty students' working desks, each of which is supplied with water, gas, and drawers with shelves for the necessary re-agents and apparatus." All students at the college were required to take chemistry during their first and second years, four terms for Agriculture and Mechanics students, and three terms for Home Economics students. G. W. Shaw (with large mustache at far left in top row wearing dark suit and tie) joined the college faculty as a Professor of Chemistry and Physics in the 1891-1892 academic year and taught at OAC until 1900. The actual eighth issue was mislabeled by the Scab Sheet editors and cover artist, so to disrupt the labeled titles as little as possible, in this digital collection, the first is designated as 8-A while this issue is designated as 8-B. Note: Page numbers listed reflect the actual page numbers despite this issue changing the paper’s format by labeling the second page as “page one.” Page 1 The cover sheet depicts children presenting flowers to their mother, surrounded by the text “The Scab Sheet WELCOMES OSU MOMS.” The price is 25 cents total—5 cents for the truth, and 20 cents for the “Generation Gap.” Page 2 “HISTORY OF THE SCAB” A history of The Scab Sheet is described, including an explanation of the reason for its origins. “ASOSU Elections INVESTIGATED” After student concern over the handling of the ASOSU elections (covered extensively in previous Scab Sheets), a special session of the Student Senate is reported to have created a committee to investigate the charges. “CENSORSHIP” A summary of events of perceived censorship is listed, including the aftermath to the Fred Milton incident, as well as alleged corruption in the student government. It was accepted by the state from the contractor on August 26, 1876. Of course later additions were made to the building and this picture shows it as it is today after a half century of service. During the fifty years the industrial growth of Oregon has been gradual, until today, in proportion to population, the quantity and quality of the products of the state are very gratifying. The lumber and timber products industry, including logging camps and sawmills, is the leader in manufacturing when measured either by value of products or the number of wage earners employed. The basic industry of Agriculture continues to increase its production in spite of the fact that there were about 800 less farm owners in 1925 than in 1920. While transportation companies in Oregon rank next to timber in the number of employees, the farms make possible the grain mills and flour mills, the output of which ranks next to timber products in value. Standing third in value in factory products is the slaughtering and meat packing industry, While butter-making follows closely and is steadily gaining in the value of its output. The pictures following give glimpses indicative of a few industrial activities of Oregon.
