Tabor, situated in the southwestern part of Galilee rises from the plain of Esdraelon, all of which is below see level. The mountain in lonely grandeur rises to a height of 1,843 feet above the sea. Many springs are found on this lonely peak which feeds the stream descending to the Jordon. On this mountain we see trees growing. This is due to the number of springs found on the mountain side. It is of interest to know that the entire country of Palestine might be made fertile and productive. Its development is hindered because it has no settled agriculture population, its present population being wandering Syrians and Arabs who herd their sheep and goats. Within the past fifty years considerable areas of waste land have been brought under cultivation." Damascus is supposed to be the oldest city in the world-- certainly the longest for continued existence. It was first mentioned in the Bible in Abraham's time (Gen. 14:15) It is altogether likely that Abraham stopped here on his way from UR of the Chaldees. It has successfully passed under the dominion of the Assyrian, Babylonians, Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Saracens, and finally was captured by the Turks in 1516. And today it is still the capital of nearly all Syria, and is the most populous and flourishing city of the East." Alpine glaciers occur about high peak and on the summits and flanks of mountain ranges in many parts of the world, but reach their most perfect development in temperate regions. The Himalayas, the Alps, the mountains of Scandinavia, the Southern Alps of New Zealand, the Cordilleras, etc., furnish well-known examples. Glaciers of this type originate as a rule in amphitheaters and cirques, partially surrounded by lofty peaks and overshadowing precipices, and flow through rugged valleys leading from them as winding ice rivers which carry the excess of snow falling on the mountains into the lower regions, where a higher mean annual temperature causes it to melt. They are essentially streams of ice, formed usually by the union of many branches, and end abruptly when the drainage changes from a solid to a liquid form."
