  Citation × Citation Citation Abstract Copy Title: Salmon-Neskowin Watershed Analysis Abstract -- This Watershed Analysis provides the principal analysis of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems that will be used to meet ecosystem management objectives for the watershed and was conducted under the direction of the April 1994 Record of Decision for Amendments to Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management Planning Documents within the Range of the Northern Spotted Owl. The Analysis address pertinent issues related to teh condition of NF and BLM late-successional reserve lands as funcitoning late-successional ecosystems, the condition of aquatice and riparian resoures, condition of the Salmon River estuary, and roads; describes current conditions and reference conditions of the watersheds and provides recommendations for improvements to the watersheds.   Citation × Citation Citation Abstract Copy Title: West Fork Illinois River Watershed Analysis Abstract -- The West Fork Illinois River Watershed Analysis (Iteration 1.0) document was completed in June 1997 to provide an ecological context for proposed mineral development, including management recommendations. The focus of iteration 1.0 was the serpentine portion of the watershed on Forest Service lands. The purpose of the current document and analysis is to expand on this earlier analysis by adding the lower elevation BLM land areas. It identifies the various ecosystem components in the lower elevation areas of the West Fork Illinois River fifth field watershed and their interactions at a landscape scale. The analysis looks at historical ecological components, current ecological components and trends. It makes recommendations for future management actions that could be implemented to reach recommended ecological conditions. However, the remaining elements need significant improvement to reach desired levels of high canopy coverage in forested sites, dense juniper woodlands, moderate road densities, lack of LWD, moderate to high stream temperatures, moderate to high spawning gravel fines, and culvert barriers. The less than desired conditions of these elements inhibit the Upper Chewaucan River Watershed from functioning appropriately as a redband trout reserve. As a result, this assessment element is functioning appropriately but-at-risk. The fisheries department believes strongly in restoration, habitat improvement and success for our streams, rivers, watershed, and forest; dedicating ourselves daily to the strategic planning and goals of the bull trout monitoring program summarized in this report. The area is mountainous and heavily forested with hot and dry summers and mide and wet winters. It is largely rural with one urban center, Grants Pass, and a number of small communities. In this assessment, we have divided the MRW into five subwatersheds: Grave Creek, Galice Creek, Jumpoff Joe Creek, Grants Pass and the Wild and Scenic watersheds. It straddles the Deschutes-Klamath County line approximately 41 airline miles southwest of Bend and was formed when a geologically recent lava flow from Davis Mountain blocked the Odell Creek channel. The US Forest Service manages the land surrounding the lake and maintains the campgrounds. In September 1980, the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission accepted the Department's recommendation to continue to manage Davis Lake for wild and hatchery fish.
