The real estate has been developed into comprehensive projects for recreation and vacation resorts, in addition to, health care centers and greenhouse farming. This new attempt to develop these geothermal resources has increased the economic growth of the area and interest in geothermal expansion. Year: 1979 Detailed site specific data regarding the commercialization potential of the proven, potential, and inferred geothermal resource areas in Idaho are presented. To assess the potential for geothermal resource development in Idaho, several kinds of data were obtained. These include information regarding institutional procedures for geothermal development, logistical procedures for utilization, energy needs and forecasted demands, and resource data. Area reports, data sheets, and scenarios were prepared that described possible geothermal development at individual sites. In preparing development projections, the objective was to base them on actual market potential, forecasted growth, and known or inferred resource conditions. To the extent possible, power-on-line dates and energy utilization estimates are realistic projections of the first events. Commercialization projections were based on the assumption that an aggressive development program will prove sufficient known and inferred resources to accomplish the projected event. To improve the local job market, an effort is underway to enhance the competitive position of the local commerce and industry. This effort is directed at the development of local geothermal resources in the form of an energy utility system to furnish low-cost energy to its job-intensive industry. The Susanville Geothermal Energy Project (SGEP) encompasses the research and development for the energy system. A team composed of key citizens, elected officials, city management, and industry has developed the project since late 1973. The Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA) has contracted for a research program to define the economics of a community building an economic base through the utilization of geothermal energy. The ERDA effort will define the economic model, specific energy systems, and a program plan for the development of a demonstration geothermal utility system.
