Author: Alizadeh, Yasser, Lingga, Marwan Mossa Year: 2010 Google Trends is a powerful tool in extracting and comparing searched terms through the time. It simply shows the increasing or decreasing of searching times for any term on the biggest search engine on the web. The goal of this paper is to find out whether Google Trends data has a significant correlation with the characteristics of the subject in the real world or not? For instance, is there any meaningful correlation between “volume search index” in Google Trends for a term like “Oil Price” and actual worldwide Oil price? This paper tests the hypothesis on two similar cases; “Oil Price” and “Gold Price” to answer the above question. Research findings have shown a strong correlation between Google Trends volume search index and actual real world data for both terms. We have concluded that Google Trends could be a valuable, fast and free tool to predict the trends of such a trends, although it definitely needs more studies for verification or generalize the method. This paper analyzes the trend of open innovation in top pure-play foundries through literature research. Despite the intense advertisements, the responses from customers didn’t appear as expected. Less than 1 percent of US households have a 3DTV set and just only 8% are interested in the 3D technology according from Leichtman Research.[1] Some reasons for 3D TV failure are too pricey ($600 - $1,000 more than their HDTV counterparts), few contents available, and hassle from 3D glasses.[2] The industry has come up with the new hype for TV set in 2011. In 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the new trend is Internet-enabled everything. The spearhead of this trend is inevitably TV set market. Integrating internet with TV has been discusses and debated for decade. WebTV from Microsoft is a good example of the effort to combining internet with TV. WebTV was launched in 1996 with the set-top box and wireless keyboard. The primary purpose was for web browsing and email. However, WebTV wasn’t successful back at that time. It seems like a déjà vu, the same trend has come back. This study is built on previous investigations in forecasting microprocessors’ technology and uses Technology Forecasting using Data Envelopment Analysis (TFDEA) methodology. It incorporates multiple variables that are affecting microprocessors’ future industry based on market priorities and customer’s specification preferences and aims at forecasting future microprocessor technology trends. The research uses the dataset collected by Stanford University, which holds a rich collection of microprocessor specifications from 17 factories for the past four decades, and is more recent compared to the dataset used in the former research. The result is a rate of change (RoC) that is based on much more recent dataset including the new generation of microprocessors (i.e. multi cores) and can be used to forecast the future microprocessor technology trends. The main difficulty in this is determining how to use the information effectively and in a manner that will yield results that can be acted upon. Several different methodologies are being developed in the Technology Watch area of research including the Patent Alert System (PAS) by Dereli and Durmusoglu. By using two different variations of the Patent Alert System, this paper will analyze two different technologies based on wind energy. These variations include Linear Regression based PAS and Fuzzy Logic based PAS.
