Although this is recognized as the industry leading technology, Q-Cells has set a goal to be the leader in next generation solar PV. We need to develop a process capability within our organization to support the design and development of industry leading second generation (2G) PV technology. The organization has created the Q-Cells NPI process, a modified stage gate phase model to support this new product development. The Q-Cells senior management has given their support to our defined product development lifecycle process. To achieve this goal of 2G solar PV, our new technology experts have been searching for new developments in research labs around the country. The rest of this report will document the process we propose for use by Q-Cells to insure a successful product development, from the idea generation stage, successively through definition, design, systems engineering and product engineering to full production manufacturing. It is impossible to discuss technologically innovative and leading countries without Brazil in the conversation. Brazil is the technological leader in South America and has been for some time due, in large part, to their use of green, self sustaining energies. Brazil has been able to develop a university and communications system that support the current green energy initiatives and will drive Brazil into future technological dominance in the region. For our research, we started with an analysis of the different areas which Brazil has a global impact on technology. We started with a top level review of all of Brazils technology efforts and impacts in different areas of concern. During this review, we found Brazil has research and development efforts in a number of areas, such as aerospace, pharmaceutical research, and agriculture, but there was a more significant theme that we found. A significant portion of Brazil’s technology development had an environmental theme to it. Due to Brazil’s geography with vast rainforests, status as a developing nation, and development of technologies meant to help it compete in the global marketplace, a significant portion of Brazil’s technological development had a global environmental theme. Upon finding this, we set out to create a critical report of Brazil’s technologies which have a global environmental impact. This is a report of Brazil’s technological development with regard to government policy, energy, transportation, electric power, telecommunications, and publicly funded efforts. These areas capture Brazil’s technologic advancements and the impacts that they will have globally. Our research was not meant to compare Brazil with other countries, but instead to study and report on Brazil’s technological capabilities in these areas. Making the proper decision is consequential and potentially fraught with risks for the firm such as competitive exposure, high expenditures with inadequate returns, restrictive inbound or outbound patent licensing obligations, and related complications. This study presents a framework to guide managers in the ICT industry in assessing the factors that inform the decision to participate in the development of technology standards. Using multi-criteria decision analysis and judgment data from panels of experts, a robust model is developed that comprehends the essential criteria and outcomes within the context of computer interconnect technologies. The resultant, generalizable model is validated against the case of the extant Universal Serial Bus (USB) interconnect standard and found to be congruent with the assessment of the experts. Scholarship on technology standards development is rich and multifaceted--spanning numerous streams of inquiry. This research contextualizes technology standardization within the economic, strategic, organizational, and legal perspectives. The resultant model demonstrates that strategic planning is regarded by the experts as the principal driver in the decision to participate in a technology standardization effort. Furthermore, the primacy of commitment and leadership within the standards-setting organization is unambiguously established through rigorous quantitative analysis. The proposed model verifies that the firm's desire to align its product roadmap to the emerging standard is the chief criterion in the decision to contribute to the standards development effort. Other criteria of high interest include the leveraging of network externalities to glean disruptive trends within the ecosystem, the exploration of opportunities to expand the total available market for the firm, and the availability and terms of IP licenses. Sensitivity analysis affirms the overall predictive strength and robustness of the model and its widespread applicability. Future research on model expansion and application to other technologies, as well as the development of uniform patent valuation methods will further enrich the knowledge base. OSS is developed by organized communities of interested parties and sometimes by major software companies.OSS is developed by applying high quality standards and rigorous processes used when developing proprietary softwares. In most of the publications, much of the assessment of the drivers of growth and factors which hinder the development of OSS has been done form the technical perspective .Managerial perceptions of benefits and drawbacks that impact the organizational adoption of OSS has been neglected due to its focus on software development. In this paper we have tried to analyze the benefits and drawbacks mainly from the perspective of the IS/IT managers by analyzing various case studies of the leading companies that adopted OSS in their software portfolios. We also conducted surveys with two leading corporations like Nike and Intel in the city of Portland in Orgeon and also tried to contact the people from few global companies. After analyzing surveys and case studies we found out that benefits outweigh drawbacks in adoption of OSS. Companies are strategically adopting OSS as they have incorporated OSS in their IT strategies. The issues which were thought to be hindering the growth of OSS were found to be insignificant in front of the large amount of savings, escape from vendor-lock-in and customization of processes which companies are able to achieve after switching to OSS. Despite of many benefits some concerns surfaced up like lack of formal guidelines for the adoption of OSS in an organization. Lack of management support also hinders the adoption of OSS. OSS can be the best choice for the company if it aligns its business objectives with particular OSS before switching to it. Today,OSS is in the software portfolio of more than seventy five percent of the major companies and is expected that by 2016 OSS will be in mission critical software portfolios of more than ninety nine percent of global companies.
