The Stroker is made of a metal exterior, with Teflon coated interior to reduce friction, and clips or pins that provide expandability. Innovation – Prototype development offers several opportunities to find innovative design solutions to improve and address the goals of the product. Although a rudimentary prototype has been developed as part of the concept development process, it is not a functional prototype that can be tested to determine if indeed the design meets the standards developed by the product development team. Two major challenges have to be addressed. The prototype can help ensure that the design is the best method of expanding/contracting of the components rapidly that provides stability, limits friction to a minimum, and is durable enough for casual use. Secondly, developing a prototype will provide additional insight into the development of the most costs effective manufacturing process. Thirdly, this is a lifestyle product and as such, industrial design is critical to its success. What design elements will be most appealing to the greatest percentage of our target market? OS Medical is dedicated to developing low-cost medical devices. The first device, currently in development, is the Blind Vision Project. Worn as a conventional pair of glasses, the BVP utilizes ultrasonic sensors to perceive physical objects, transmitting their proximity with massaging motors connected to the earpieces of the glasses. The device’s range can be easily adjusted to facilitate indoor or outdoor use. The device is powered by a lithium-ion battery, which is recharged with a standard USB cable. 3 million Americans are currently blind and 25 million suffer from impaired vision. Blindness can lead to a variety of other health conditions such as depression, diabetes and high cholesterol. Globally, 40 million are blind and 285 million visually impaired. In developing, lack of mobility can dramatically shorten life expectancy. The BVP will strive to increase the mobility and improve the life of blind people around the world. Both blind people and advocacy groups have expressed interest in the BVP, though similar devices have failed to catch on in the past. The failure of similar devices is generally attributed to a lack of functionality or unwieldy appearance. Competing devices are currently in development by Oxford University, Brainport Technology and potentially Apple Computers. By harnessing the power of open source development, OS Medical will strive to become the preeminent assistive device design community. OS Medical is committed to adhering to open source principles. All design specifications and IP will be published freely. Thriving open source communities exist to support software applications such as Linux, Mozilla and Drupal. Open source hardware communities are growing quickly. OS Medical will be the first open source community dedicated specifically to medical devices. Production of devices will be performed in partnership with electrical engineering classes at universities. The BVP will be delivered as a kit, which will be assembled by students as they learn basic engineering skills. Completed kits will be donated to blindness advocacy organizations for distribution to users. The BVP would replace the kits currently used, which have minimal social value and are generally thrown away or salvaged for parts at the conclusion of the class. OS Medical is currently in discussions with Prof Phillip Wong to develop a pilot program in conjunction with his Electrical Programming class. In 2013, OS Medical would like to provide the BVP to users free of cost. With an initial goal of 200 devices, OS Medical will require $30,000 in start-up funding. This will provide for the components of the device and administrative costs for the website which would support the OS Medical community. OS Medical would like to develop additional devices to serve other disabilities by 2015 and grow to serve 4,000 users by 2017. OS Medical will strive to both supply devices and serve as a cornerstone in the open source medical device community. After capturing a large portion of the Smartphone market share and leading the market in sales with its Galaxy S-series, Samsung will be introducing a different Smartphone that will incorporate the flexible screen technology “Galaxy Skin”. This incorporation of the flexible technology will enable Smartphones to be bendable, unbreakable, more power efficient, low weight and smaller in size. The paper introduces Samsung in general and analyzes its strength and capabilities of developing such products. Afterwards, the study covers the market demographics by sizing the total market, and the segmentation of the available market. The analysts then drill down into the market needs and investigate the target customers who have pressing need for such product. Surveys and interviews were conducted to capture the customer’s voice. The findings indicate that customers ranked the battery life to be the most favored feature followed by the flexible screen. Moreover, the analysts developed a marketing plan of the Galaxy Skin—which involved value drivers, CRTA, TALC, competition analysis, 4P’s and sales forecasting for the post launch two years. Furthermore, the price of Galaxy Skin is not yet announced, but the analysts estimated the price to be $725 based on the customer and competition analysis. Due to the secrecy practices and confidentiality that Samsung is following, the researchers of this paper had to make some assumptions such as those related to budgeting. Lastly, the analysts find that Samsung is committed to sustain its leadership in the Smartphone market by becoming the dominant developer of the flexible display technology products. Few industries have had to navigate so many concurrent changes as the telecommunications industry. This report seeks to evaluate how the major telecommunications suppliers successful package and introduce new products in an environment with limited regulation changing technologies. An evaluation of voice and data products introduced by AT&T, Sprint and MCI (later WorldCom, Verizon) reveal how carriers maintain profit margins despite falling prices in a highly competitive environment. Few industries could claim to have created a science of deceptive pricing policies as successfully as the telecommunications industry. Through a series of proverbial shell games, few customers have the savvy to understand, telecommunications carriers take advantage of falling service delivery costs as a result of technology improvements, create complex multi-variable pricing schemes that only appear to pass along the technology savings to their customers. Furthermore, in what many would call conclusion among the carriers, customers thinking that competitive bidding ensures the most competitive price are collectively mislead by all bidders. This report sheds light on the product development and service introduction process of telecommunications suppliers. We believe technology “should work for you—to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don’t [1]. “ And here comes the role of Google Glass as an alternative. The project was started by the Google company under the name ‘Project Glass’ to create a significant type of technology that provides an environment to help people share the world and put it back in the moment. Google Glass is an augmented reality head-mounted display (HMD) developed by Google within Project Glass’ research & development program [2]. Our focus in this marketing plan will be on enterprise businesses, rather than only solutions for individual end users. Google is already in the enterprise market. We will go through our marketing plan by starting with the product itself, and by doing a Product Analysis. We discuss a Technology Assessment and then explore the product propose, components, features, and value it can provide to enterprise customers. Then we will go through our Market Analysis to show our potential customer segmentations. We explain our decision of choosing our targeted early adapters and early majority and illustrate the technology’s adoption lifecycle curve and crossing the chasm. Later on, in the Customer Analysis section we explain our targeted customers in depth by giving a definition and exploring their activities. We show the role of Google Glass in the work process and end up with the customer perceptions. Furthermore, in the Competitor Analysis section, we will create a competitive landscape to map our product’s competitors by giving an in-depth elaboration on every competitor’s pros and cons and their place in the landscape position.
