The readers and the intended audience of the development log can be anybody who is willing to know about choosing a technology in developing a Travel Beverage Heater. The problem that was not currently addressed by various other technologies and products was to heat the drink anywhere and at anytime. The current technologies that are used to heat the drink are not safer which could cause burns and hurt the customers, not easy to carry, not compact, some chemical based products have also caused injuries to the customers and were not eco friendly. Hence, to address these needs we have developed a product through our thorough research and analysis. The scope of the development log report doesn’t cover much in depth about the circuit design or in depth product specifications. It discusses about various possible technologies in high level that can be used such as chemical based, Butane fuel based and finally battery power based technology which could heat the drink. Hence, having a some prior knowledge about these chemicals and technologies would help to better understand the product but it is not mandatory. The methodology adopted was finding market opportunity through gap analysis of the competitors’ products which were customer complaints unaddressed by the other products which lead to the initiation of idea of developing a product which could heat the drink that is light, easy to use and safe to carry. Further we considered various potential customer segments that may be willing to buy this product, followed by selecting a potential target segment who were parents having babies and on further interviewing we found the customer needs and then interpreted the needs. The technology was selected based on interviewing the Mothers who have babies which was finally found to be battery based and later we used needs-metrics matrix to come up with product specifications. Final stage of developing the product was product design which was found to be spiral type design after evaluating various other designs. Finally, we calculated product development economics which includes unit production cost, net present value and break even analysis. The development log report starts with product development process which includes product planning and concept development, followed by design phase, product development economics, lessons learned and follow on research. As our team was composed of international students, we decided to develop a digital luggage scale because it was something we could all relate to. This development log will explain in detail how we went from initial idea to the final product design. Additionally, this paper will describe the challenges that we faced, what we did well, the improvements that could be made and finally how we will learn from our mistakes and use this knowledge in future projects. The Stroker is made of a metal exterior, with Teflon coated interior to reduce friction, and clips or pins that provide expandability. Innovation – Prototype development offers several opportunities to find innovative design solutions to improve and address the goals of the product. Although a rudimentary prototype has been developed as part of the concept development process, it is not a functional prototype that can be tested to determine if indeed the design meets the standards developed by the product development team. Two major challenges have to be addressed. The prototype can help ensure that the design is the best method of expanding/contracting of the components rapidly that provides stability, limits friction to a minimum, and is durable enough for casual use. Secondly, developing a prototype will provide additional insight into the development of the most costs effective manufacturing process. Thirdly, this is a lifestyle product and as such, industrial design is critical to its success. What design elements will be most appealing to the greatest percentage of our target market? After capturing a large portion of the Smartphone market share and leading the market in sales with its Galaxy S-series, Samsung will be introducing a different Smartphone that will incorporate the flexible screen technology “Galaxy Skin”. This incorporation of the flexible technology will enable Smartphones to be bendable, unbreakable, more power efficient, low weight and smaller in size. The paper introduces Samsung in general and analyzes its strength and capabilities of developing such products. Afterwards, the study covers the market demographics by sizing the total market, and the segmentation of the available market. The analysts then drill down into the market needs and investigate the target customers who have pressing need for such product. Surveys and interviews were conducted to capture the customer’s voice. The findings indicate that customers ranked the battery life to be the most favored feature followed by the flexible screen. Moreover, the analysts developed a marketing plan of the Galaxy Skin—which involved value drivers, CRTA, TALC, competition analysis, 4P’s and sales forecasting for the post launch two years. Furthermore, the price of Galaxy Skin is not yet announced, but the analysts estimated the price to be $725 based on the customer and competition analysis.
