It is also a new innovation in the use of the Internet. Software applications written in various programming languages and running on various platforms can use the web services to exchange data over computer networks like the internet in a conceptual manner similar to inter-process communication on a single computer. This evolution of web services is ushering in new usage models; that has the potential to change the way how humans interact with computers. This paper will look at the background, provide a quick snapshot, current trends and in particular, provide analysis of how web services will change the way humans interact with computers and with it, the potential of forever changing the entire computer industry that we know of today. In fact, the service sector has developed into a critical value driver in the 21st century, even for manufactured products. Furthermore, technology infrastructure has become one of the key success factors in the delivery of services. This special issue focuses on technology management aspects of the critical integration of services and infrastructure. This integration is complex and requires more systematic scholarly understanding in order to enhance successful service delivery. It is envisioned that this special issue begins to fill this gap. There are many examples of success and failure to learn from but little theory and systematic approaches to assist decision-makers as they provide technology enabled services. One recent example has been the roll out of the new US healthcare system (healthcare.gov) and the failure of the web interface. The main issue in this example was the process of integrating health care services with the information technology infrastructure. The less than effective management of technology in this case led to a failure which was globally newsworthy and had a significant negative effect on the intended outcome of providing affordable healthcare. This special issue explores both strategic aspects such as evaluation and planning of technologies as well as operational aspects such as implementation and actual integration of technologies with the services. It is envisioned that new scholarly approaches and understanding will inform decision-makers so that better outcomes can result regardless of whether the services are in the commercial, public or non-profit sectors and regardless of industry vertical. Although new opportunities/technology like the worldwide web, electronic mail, discussion board and newsgroups have been created there is some level of unpredictable fear as well. Changes will introduce new services of real time transport like audio and video streams, powerful computing and communications like two-way pagers and cellular phones and new applications like Internet telephones and televisions. Trust, authentication and security are aspects that will come to the forefront more and more as these compelling end-user capabilities gain popularity. In this paper, we address security issues both from a technical as well as from a regulation point of view and try to consolidate and present factors involved in developing trust in Internet commerce. We identify and clarify old and emerging concepts and consider how regulating the Internet as public space highlights/brings up public policies of the future regarding Internet governance. Here “re-Innovation” can be defined as “new product ‘b’ building upon the existing technological infrastructure and existing product ‘a’ without making any changes to ‘a’ and technological infrastructure”. Every innovation that was built was used as is and another layer was built to create totally a new innovation, which would not function without the previous innovations. This paper examines this concept by the means of a case study of a novel idea called PushToTalk. This was groomed under the visionaries of a company called eFusion, to address eCommerce communication hurdles and to enhance a user’s shopping web experience. PushToTalk was envisioned as a VoIP (voice over internet protocol) tool and was built upon an existing hardware infrastructure that eFusion had called ‘eAG’; the ‘eAG’ was developed to service the telecom market, and this technology had extensive capabilities and functionality. The background and history of PushToTalk provided in the later sections explains the technological evolution under each management and provides basis for the analysis of the concept. Then the paper presents analysis, implications and suggestions around this topic.
