Year: 1980 An electrical resistivity survey in the Colado geothermal area, Pershing County, Nevada has defined areas of low resistivity on each of five lines surveyed. Some of these areas appear to be fault controlled. Thermal fluids encountered in several drill holes support the assumption that the hot fluids may be associated with areas of low resistivity. The evidence of faulting as interpreted from modeling of the observed resistivity data is therefore particularly significant since these structures may be the conduits for the thermal fluids. Sub-allurial fault zones are interpreted to occur between stations 0 to 5 NW on Line D and on Line A between stations 4 NW and 4 SE. Fault zones are also interpreted on Line C near stations 1 NW, 1 SE, and 3 SE, and on Line E between stations 2 to 4 NW and near 1 SE. No faulting is evident under the alluvial cover on the southwest end of Line B. A deep conductive zone is noted within the mountain range on two resistivity lines. Year: 1976 During the summers of 1974 and 1975, gravity and ground magnetic surveys were made over the central part of the Mineral Mountains and vicinity, Utah. The gravity survey comprised 627 gravity stations over an area of approximately 660 sq km, and included 8 gravity profiles over the Roosevelt Hot Springs KGRA. The magnetic survey comprised over 400 magnetic stations within 4 magnetic profiles. The gravity data were compiled as a terrain-corrected Bouguer gravity anomaly map with a contour interval of 2 mgal. The gravity features include: (1) generally northward-trending gravity contours with gradients along the margins of the Mineral Range, indicating that the range is a horst bounded on the east and west by the Beaver and Milford valley grabens, respectively, where the Milford Valley graben shows pronounced gravity low, which indicates a valley-fill thickness of about 1.8km; and (2) a northward-trending gravity high extends along the western flank of the Mineral Range (probably caused by high-density metamorphic rocks) Title: Gravity and Ground Magnetic Surveys of the Central Mineral Mountains, Utah. Year: 1978 The potential for discovering geopressured geothermal reservoirs in the Vicksburg Formation is limited to Hidalgo County along the Lower Texas Gulf Coast. In Hidalgo County, an area of approximately 385 square miles (designated the Vicksburg Fairway) contains up to 1,300 feet of geopressured sandstones with fluid temperatures greater than 300/sup 0/F. In-place effective permeability, however, averages less than 1 millidarcy in the Vicksburg sandstones because of fine grain size and extensive late carbonate cementation. Also, areal extent of individual reservoirs is limited in a dip direction by growth faults and in a strike direction by the lenticular morphology of the sandstone bodies. In conclusion, under the present specifications set for a geothermal fairway, the Vicksburg has minimal potential because of low reservoir deliverability, which is constrained by low permeability and somewhat limited reservoir continuity. These systems are just west of the Wasatch Mountains at the eastern edge of the Basin and Range physiographic province and within the active seismic zone referred to as the Intermountain Seismic Belt. This Report of Investigation is a summary of UGMS investigations at four northern Wasatch Front geothermal systems: Utah, Crystal (Madsen), and Udy hot springs; and the Little Mountain - south system. All of these resources are deep circulation systems and the water is heated by the normal heat flow of the Basin and Range Province. Heat from volcanic sources is not believed to contribute to the warming of any northern Wasatch Front springs.
