The CWPP for Jefferson County covers the entire county except for the area covered by the Greater Sisters Country CWPP in the southwest corner of Jefferson County. It also includes that portion of Crooked River Ranch that is in northern Deschutes County. The CWPP that covers northern Deschutes County was expected to be developed in late 2005 or early 2006. Plan goals are to protect against potential losses to life, property and natural resources from wildland fire, build and maintain active participation from each Fire Protection District, set realistic expectations for reducing wildland fire risk, identify actions for fire protection, access and utilize federal and other grant dollars, identify incentives for fire protection and community participation, promote visible projects and program successes, monitor changing conditions of wildland fire risk and citizen action over time, institutionalize fire-related programs and sustain community efforts for fire protection, and establish and maintain escape route and adjacent corridors. Human life and welfare are values at risk to wildfire loss in south-central Lake County because of hazardous fuels buildup around communities and structures, poor emergency vehicle ingress and egress and constant need for training firefighting personnel and/or upgrading equipment. Throughout the county, there are scattered small communities and ranches with houses and out buildings without structural fire protection because they are outside the Lakeview Fire Department, Paisley Volunteer Fire Department and the Rural Fire Protection Districts. Other economic values at risk include businesses, farmland, ranchland, grazing land, hunting and other recreational land, historic and cultural sites and critical infrastructure.
