The benefit/cost ratio based on timber values alone is negative, but other benefits outweigh the economic ones. Dwarf mistletoe management is recommended. The benefit/cost ratio at 4 percent for the current rotation is 0.51/1 on the Sula RD and 0.45/1 on the Darby RD (both negative ratios). Elimination of dwarf mistletoe infestation for several rotations will increase benefits. Value added to the economy cannot be used in benefit/cost analysis, but will be substantial. The plot survey showed annual cubic foot volume losses ranging from 106M on the Custer to nearly 2.5MM on the Deerlodge. These losses are significant.
