The agency acknowledged that climate change is already affecting Oregon’s species and habitats and that future climate change represents one of the most serious long-term challenges to sustaining healthy populations of fish and wildlife. This workshop brought together representatives of the research, land and resource management, and conservation communities to contribute to the update and implementation of the Oregon Conservation Strategy. Participants were asked to help ODFW identify climate change impacts and high-priority climate change adaptation strategies for Oregon’s oak-dominated habitats. The meeting was also intended to build and strengthen partnerships in the research and management communities. With the ebb and flow of population and the economic growth of Oregon coastal communities, three hypotheses have been generated about the ability of these communities to meet future water supply needs. The purpose of this project was to better understand the challenges and opportunities facing coastal community water suppliers as a whole and to ultimately improve the prospects for meeting future water needs. Findings show that contrary to the first hypothesis, most of those interviewed do not think that economic development is constrained by waters supply. However, it does appear that it would be difficult for state economic development officials to match businesses and industries interested in relocating to the Oregon coast with community water supply availability and reliability. Findings also show that the major problem facing community water suppliers in preparing water management and conservation plans cited by interviewees is financial. Though Oregon’s coastal communities face several planning, management, physical, economic, and regulatory challenges in preparing for future water supply needs, numerous partnership, conservation, and research and training opportunities exist. What is needed is an opportunity for a facilitated process of restructuring water supply systems. The workshop was designed to enable individuals in agencies and other organizations who are directly engaged in coastal marine spatial planning to discuss and resolve issues related to creating a collaborative Oregon coastal and marine data network. This network would serve the needs of the broad community of agencies, institutions, and the wider coastal and marine data user community. The objectives of the workshop were threefold: * Provide existing examples and models for user community interaction and discussion on coastal and marine institutional data collection, sharing, and integration; * Identify and prioritize issues, solutions, and action items that would enable coastal and marine data producers and users to be long-term data stewards; and, *Draft a framework for an Oregon user community network to address coastal and marine data stewardship and technical concerns. Thirty-six people from Oregon, California, and Washington represented state and federal agencies, nongovernmental organizations, environmental consulting firms, universities, and data collaboratives (Appendix A) at the workshop.
