Thompson Research Center since 1966. During this time, a substantial body of information has been collected on the amounts, pathways, rates of transfer, and mechanisms that control transfer of elements in the mineral cycling process in this ecosystem. These studies have had two major objectives: (1) to provide information describing the changes in mineral cycling as the stand grows, and (2) to examine the year-to-year variation in the mineral cycling process. More recently, a third objective has been to examine the relation between climatic factors and the various mechanisms that control rates of transfer along the transfer pathways.
