There are several studies done in this area to find the solutions which can increase the effectiveness of finite resource allocation. In this paper, our team focuses on the allocation of testing semiconductor equipment in a company (i.e., Novellus Systems Inc.). The challenge is to assign modules to proper test bays and have them ready within due date. This is critical as there is a penalty that the company has to pay for every day they miss the deadline. Also, the company does not want to have the modules ready way before the customer commit date until unless it is extremely necessary to do so. Thus, our team focused to develop an optimization model to minimize the delay time and early time of each module assigned to specific test bays. We used Xpress-Mosel to implement the mathematical model due to the complexity of decision making. The application developed can provide intensive recommendations to effectively manage the allocation of resources. This model would benefit the company to effectively allocate modules to specific test bays and helps in smooth flow of modules from assembly to shipping.
