Furthermore, this study evaluated how universities in Oregon have responded to increased rates of nonmedical prescription stimulant use on campuses across the country. The following research questions are addressed: 1) What are students’ perceptions about their own prescription cognitive stimulant use? 2) How do students who do not use cognitive stimulants perceive other students’ use of these drugs? 3) What is the role of counselors and physicians on campus in educating university students about nonmedical use of prescription cognitive stimulants? 4) Do regulations imposed by universities and the legal system have any influence on students’ use of prescription cognitive stimulants? 5) Are the resources available to students at universities in Oregon well-developed to educate and prevent nonmedical use of prescription cognitive stimulants? This study was limited to the scope of published literature on the topic, and further research still needs to be done to accurately identify potential areas for improved education and regulation relating to prescription stimulant use. It was concluded that lymph node involvement has a linear and positive association with cancer stage and radiation therapy. It was also concluded that hormone therapy and surgery are likely not prescribed based on lymph node involvement. Chemotherapy was most commonly prescribed for patients with lymph node involvement, but a linear relationship was not seen. The highest prevalence for treatment contraindication was seen in radiation therapy. The highest prevalence of treatment refusal was seen in chemotherapy. Lastly, there was a linear positive association between refusal of chemotherapy and increased lymph node involvement. These results are pertinent to St. Charles Health System because they inform physicians of trends in patient health status. In 1993, the Oregon chub was listed as endangered because of habitat loss and predation and competition by nonnative fishes. Conservation efforts by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) and other agencies have led the Oregon chub to become the first fish ever proposed for delisting due to recovery. The goal of this project was to analyze population parameters from 18 sites containing Oregon chub and determine how factors such as the presence of nonnative species and the supplementation of other chub might affect them. I used regression to determine overall trends for each population and a population viability analysis to evaluate quasi-extinction risk for each population. Results indicate that over long time periods, the supplementation of chub can reduce extinction risk, while the presence of nonnative fishes may cause populations to drop below critical thresholds for population size. The outcome of this project is important because it supports current management practices by showing that continued monitoring is needed to maintain the progress that has been made towards the recovery of the Oregon chub. Hispanic women account for a large population in the US, however data on falls and fractures for these women is lacking. The purpose of this systematic review is to synthesize the current research on risks of falls and fractures in the Hispanic communities. PubMed was searched using MeSH terms, and key words in the title and abstract such as osteoporosis, fall, or fractures. We coded study parameters as well as intrinsic, extrinsic, socioeconomic, and cultural factors. Studies that included bone health as a predictor for falls and fractures found that low bone mineral density was the greatest predicting intrinsic factor for falls and fractures. Previous falls were the greatest extrinsic predicting factor. Few studies looked at cultural factors beyond language. Risk factors were similar between Hispanic women and the general population. Hispanic women have an increasing rate of hip fracture, compared to the general population which has a decreasing rate. This trend may be caused by cultural factors. Future studies should focus on finding a link between acculturation and prevalence of falls and fractures in Hispanic women. Most respondents harvested to meet income or silvicultural objectives. Harvests on ownerships less than 50 acres in size accounted for over one third of the harvest volume. The majority of harvests were partial cuts; salvage harvests comprised about 20 percent of the sales. Most respondents managed their own sales or relied on the logger or timber buyer. Consultants managed only six percent of the sales. Respondents who left the sale details to the logger were significantly less satisfied with the sale results and earned lower prices than other landowners. A regression analysis was performed to evaluate the relationships between sale procedures and the delivered log price. The model indicated that sale to export buyers and the number of buyers contacted were positively associated with sale price; payment of the logger on a percentage basis, lack of familiarity with price levels and trends, and buyer-initiated sales were negatively associated with the sales price. Analysis of the relationships between ownership characteristics and sale procedures indicated that experienced landowners with larger holdings were better timber marketers by normative standards. Blitzen River, the hydrographically and ecologically isolated creeks, and the upland tributaries of Silvies River all contain populations derived from the basin's Pleistocene connection with Malheur River of the Snake system. Colonization of many streams took Place during periods of high precipitation; isolation has resulted froth dessicating trends since the last glaciation. Stream capture has apparently facilitated a secondary invasion of fishes into Silvies River from John Day River, a tributary of the lower Columbia. This conclusion is further supported by the presence of several species only in central Silvies River within the basin. Certain populations similar to those occurring in isolated regions of the Harney Basin also exist above the barrier falls of the south fork of John Day River, but this drainage is believed to be another disrupted fragment containing descendants of a more ancient Columbia fauna. Speculation regarding the sequence of radiation of different species throughout the Columbia watershed is aided by distributional patterns and knowledge of hydrographic history. A sensitive, selective, rapid analytical method based on large-volume injection (LVI) liquid chromatography/ tandem mass spectrometry was developed using commercially-available hardware that eliminates the need for either off-line or on-line solid phase extraction. Centrifugation followed by the direct injection of 1,800 µL was used for the quantification of illicit drugs, metabolites, and human urinary biomarkers in municipal wastewaters. The accuracy of the method as indicated by standard addition was calculated for analytes with concentrations ranging from 4 to 3,500,000 ng/L. The average precision of the method, as indicated by relative standard deviation is 7%. Detection limits range from 2.5 ng/L to 250 ng/L. As a demonstration of the method, the temporal trend in illicit drugs, selected metabolites and human urinary biomarkers was determined for 24-hr flow-normalized composite samples of raw influent collected from a single municipal wastewater treatment plant over the course of three weeks.
