The present study discusses, what are the problems for the current automotive technologies are, what requirements are outlined in the literatures and government guidelines/publications, considering different aspects of technological needs, public needs, policy measures etc. A set of criteria are developed, which cover multiple perspectives; reflecting the diverse stakeholders in the technology assessment, acquisition and adoption, in this case the government, the general public which includes drivers and pedestrians, automobile manufacturers. Three emerging technologies (Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication, Vehicle-to- Infrastructure and Full autonomous) were identified and evaluated based on the mentioned criteria using Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), a multi criteria decision tool. Since the technologies are still being developed and some are barely emerging, it is considered appropriate to use speculative values from the publications from industry and other credible sources and consider multiple scenarios each of which could occur. In our case, we considered 9 main scenarios and evaluated the three technology candidates under each of them. In such a computing environment, it is important to utilize workstations unobtrusively and recover from machine failures. Towards this goal, we have enhanced PVM with transparent task migration, checkpointing, and global scheduling. These enhancements are part of the MIST project which takes an open systems approach in developing a cohesive, distributed parallel computing environment. This open systems approach promotes plug-and-play integration of independently developed modules, such as Condor, DQS, A VS, Prospero, XPVM, PIOUS, Ptools, etc. Transparent task migration, in conjunction with a global scheduler, facilitates the use of shared NOWs by allowing parallel jobs to unobtrusively utilize nodes that are currently unused. PVM tasks can be moved onto nodes that are otherwise idle, and moved off when the node is no longer free. Experiments show that migration performance is limited by the bandwidth of the underlying network. E.g. An 8 MB process migrates in 8 seconds on a 10 Mbps ethernet. We have implemented a global scheduler as a PVM resource manager which can take advantage of task migration to perform dynamic scheduling of tasks. Some extensions to the resource manager interface were required. The task migration mechanism also serves as the basis for transparent checkpointing, which is a common method for improving a system's fault tolerance. We have developed a PVM prototype that integrates checkpointing and migration. This paper presents an overview of the entire system, issues raised by this work, and discusses future plans. Significant technical breakthroughs are allowing automakers to develop electric vehicles (EVs) that transcend some of the key barriers that limited them historically. Plug in electric vehicles entered the Oregon marketplace in early 2011. A range of reports suggest the demand for EVs will grow rapidly once affordable highway speed vehicles become available. ODOT identified the lack of a reliable network of electric vehicle service equipment (e.g., charging stations) that increases the range of these vehicles as the biggest barrier to widespread adoption of EV technology. The demand for charging stations is expected to grow quickly as ODOT forecasts that EVs may account up to 20% of the new vehicles sold on Oregon within a decade. This project included the following elements: (1) a literature review on EV technology and development strategies; (2) a local demand assessment; (3) assessment of power load implications for local utilities based on local demand and different charging station scenarios; (4) charging station siting implications, including required infrastructure; (5) potential locations for charging infrastructure in Eugene-Springfield metro area; (6) development of materials and outreach strategies to raise public awareness of EVs; and (7) product designs for EV charging stations. This project directly supports OTREC’s objectives for educational proposals. CPW’s transportation focused service learning class in collaboration with Design Bridge (1) increased the transportation element of an existing class, and (2) provided opportunities for students to integrate transportation into architectural design, thereby promoting learning across disciplines in the transportation field. The project consists of two elements: development of a set of tools in collaboration with the four metro-area housing authorities, and an evaluation of the effectiveness of the tools. The four housing authorities conceptualized and initiated this project, and then selected our team to fully design and complete it. Transportation costs are typically a household’s second-largest expense after housing and, on average, account for about one-fifth of household spending. Low-income households are especially burdened by transportation costs, with low-income households spending up to two times as much of their income on transportation than higher-income households (Litman, 2013). Thus, reducing transportation costs is likely to have a disproportionately positive effect on the budgets of low-income households, both because of the share of their budgets it claims and because they have little to no discretionary resources to absorb higher transportation costs without impacting their ability to purchase other essentials, such as food and health care. Year: 1990 The objective of this study was twofold: (1) to identify nontraditional sources of data that can be used to monitor economic activity in rural areas, and (2) to test the relationship between such data and trends in traditional measures, such as income and employment. The need for alternative sources of data arises primarily out of the inconsistent quality and availability of traditional economic data at the subs tate level. New sources of data can help reduce this metro-rural data gap and provide a fuller picture of the diverse experience and structure of subs tate economies. Two sources of nontraditional data were explored: state government administrative records, and data from local private and quasi-private companies, such as utilities and banks. In particular, banking data from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, phone connection data from Northwest Bell (U.S. West), and food stamp program data were used. The data series consisted of county-level data for Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. These data were statistically compared to employment growth levels in each county. Banking data (reflecting bank Willingness and ability to lend), phone data (reflecting new household and business formations), and food stamp participation correlated significantly (though weakly) with growth. The weak correlations are expected because the nontraditional data series are generally more volatile, or erratic, than employment data series. Composite indexes were constructed from the data and correlated with the employment data series. The results showed improved correlations and suggest that such indexes may be useful as leading indicators of economic activity. Overall, the results show that there is considerable potential in the development of economic indicators from nontraditional data. This proposal seeks one year of start-up funding for the second objective (technology transfer). Key activities and outcomes from the OTREC funding for the Initiative?s technology transfer activities include a website clearinghouse for research and evidence-based tools that is accessible and meaningful and a series of four white papers on areas of bicycle and pedestrian research that are directly relevant to professional practice and policymaking. The website increases the availability of existing resources for use by practitioners. These resources include an archive of weekly seminars sponsored by the Center for Transportation Studies at Portland State University and digests of recent research by faculty and students at Portland State University, Oregon State University and the University of Oregon. In addition, the website provides information on existing undergraduate and graduate courses at all three universities, links to other academic and practice-based resources, and information on upcoming and past professional development workshops.   Citation × Citation Citation Abstract Copy Title: Predicting Positive Education Outcomes for Emerging Adults in Mental Health Systems of Care Author: Brennan, Eileen M., Nygren, Peggy, Stephens, Robert L., Croskey, Adrienne Year: 2016 Emerging adults who receive services based on positive youth development models have shown an ability to shape their own life course to achieve positive goals. This paper reports secondary data analysis from the Longitudinal Child and Family Outcome Study including 248 culturally-diverse youth ages 17 through 22 receiving mental health services in systems of care. After 12 months of services, school performance was positively related to youth ratings of school functioning, and service participation and satisfaction. Regression analysis revealed ratings of young peoples’ perceptions of school functioning and their experience in services added to the significant prediction of satisfactory school performance, even controlling for sex and attendance. Finally, in addition to expected predictors, participation in planning their own services significantly predicted enrollment in higher education for those who finished high school. Findings suggest that programs and practices based on positive youth development approaches can improve educational outcomes for emerging adults. Title: Predicting Positive Education Outcomes for Emerging Adults in Mental Health Systems of Care Author: Brennan, Eileen M., Nygren, Peggy, Stephens, Robert L., Croskey, Adrienne Year: 2016 Emerging adults who receive services based on positive youth development models have shown an ability to shape their own life course to achieve positive goals. This paper reports secondary data analysis from the Longitudinal Child and Family Outcome Study including 248 culturally-diverse youth ages 17 through 22 receiving mental health services in systems of care. After 12 months of services, school performance was positively related to youth ratings of school functioning, and service participation and satisfaction. Regression analysis revealed ratings of young peoples’ perceptions of school functioning and their experience in services added to the significant prediction of satisfactory school performance, even controlling for sex and attendance. Finally, in addition to expected predictors, participation in planning their own services significantly predicted enrollment in higher education for those who finished high school. Findings suggest that programs and practices based on positive youth development approaches can improve educational outcomes for emerging adults. Close

The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate intermediate grades teachers’ MQI-related noticing as they go through a ten-week research-based MQI professional development (PD) program. Specifically, this dissertation is guided by two research questions: (1) How do individual teachers’ noticing of MQI-related features of instruction shift as they go through an MQI-focused professional development program? and (2) How do teachers approach the task of noticing students’ engagement in mathematical practices? To address the first research question, I developed a multi-level framework out of a priori noticing categories in combination with data from 73 PD teachers’ individual typed responses to two video clips of mathematics instruction, in order to characterize degrees of individual teachers’ noticing of MQI-related features of instruction. I then used a mathematized version of the framework along with non-parametric statistical analyses to explore shifts in the teachers’ noticing of MQI-related features of instruction at three different time-points throughout the PD. I also illuminated the nature of these shifts by exploring snapshots of two teachers’ MQI Noticing journeys as they progressed through the PD. To address the second research question, I used thematic analyses of transcripts of one group of five teachers’ discussions in order to identify noticing perspectives exhibited by the group as they engaged in the specific task of discussing potential instances of students’ engagement mathematical practices during the PD sessions. The findings highlight and explicate the variation in teachers’ MQI Noticing, and it establishes that shifts in such noticing are possible as teachers progress through research-based MQI PD.
