This followed a loss of 13 students between Fall 2007 and Fall 2008. These two most recent years are in sharp contrast with the previous 19 years of uninterrupted gains of more than 200 students each year. K-12 enrollment growth averaged about 350 students per year from 1990 to 2000, and about 400 students per year from 2000 to 2007. The enrollment trends align closely with the housing and employment trends described in this report. Housing growth began to slow early in 2007, job losses became evident by the end of 2007, and the migration of families with children into the District tapered off beginning in 2008. In spite of this slowdown, there is still momentum from the District’s recent high population growth and increase in births. All school levels, elementary, middle, and high, remain at or near their all time high enrollments. Kindergarten and 1st grade enrollments, typically the leading indicators of shifting enrollment trends, have not declined. They were each slightly larger in Fall 2009 than in Fall 2007. The primary purpose of this study by the Portland State University Population Research Center (PRC) is to provide school Enrollment Forecasts that will be used by the District, Deschutes County, and the City of Bend for long range planning. These district-wide forecasts by grade level for the BLPSD are consistent with the Deschutes County Coordinated Population Forecast (DCCPF) adopted by the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners in September 2004. To the extent that Portland’s YCEs face a chronically difficult job market, there is cause for concern that college graduates will stop moving to Portland, or that those who have moved here won’t stay. How do libraries know that they’re developing repository services that their users want? How do you lobby administration for the funding and staff needed for a new program? How do you ensure a digital initiative's success? OHSU Library’s DAM/IR Task Force share their experiences developing relationships, getting administrative support, and implementing a marketing and communications digital assets management system, which is now in the implementation phase. From the beginning of this process, the library took the opposite of the "If we build they will come" approach. This panel presentation focuses on how the OHSU Library built support for repository services by connecting with prospective users, and how the DAM/IR Task Force continues to involve users during implementation. Decisions around DAM implementation are not only informed by expertise in repositories management, digital library systems administration, and digital preservation, but also by stakeholder perspectives from across the OHSU campus. Panelists’ presentations emphasize the process, timeline, and methods for lobbying administration; advocating and communicating with IT departments; approaches to user-focused repository system selection, installation, and migration; and ensuring digital repository management best practices at the stakeholder level. Most recently, the α isoform of Tks5 has been discovered highly expressed in cancer cells, suggesting that the Tks5 α isoform plays essential roles in the regulation of invadopodia. In the Tks protein family, only the Tks5 α isoform contains a PX domain, which binds an important second messenger, PI (3,4) P2. Using a monoclonal antibody as an antigen-specific-probe to detect the protein of interest could be a useful tool that would provide a highly specific recognition at the molecular level. This project aims to develop a highly specific rabbit monoclonal antibody (mAb) to target the human Tks5 α isoform (specifically the PX domain) in cancer cells. In this study we describe the first step of the entire process, immunogen preparation. The results showed that the recombinant protein, hTks5 α PX domain, was successfully expressed in BL21 E.coli competent cells and the purified antibody has high immunoreactivity. Other promising results obtained from western blot and immunofluorescence analyses indicated the developing antibody samples have high targeting effects on human Tks5 α isoform PX domain. Year: 2016 The Piceance Creek Basin in northwestern Colorado contains extensive oil shale deposits that produce natural gas and which could potentially yield ~1.5 trillion barrels of shale oil. However, much of the oil shale lies at depths too great for traditional mining practices and various innovative approaches for in situ conversion of kerogen to oil have been proposed. A firm understanding of the existing hydrogeochemistry is needed as resulting mineralogical changes or rock-fluid reactions may affect rock porosity and permeability. Using an existing database complied by the USGS, the water chemistry of 267 surface and groundwater samples in the Piceance Creek primary drainage basin have been evaluated by mapping major ion concentrations and mineral saturation indicies with respect to hydrostratigraphic units and geologic structures. Controlling processes have been further assessed using statistical correlation and factor analysis. Year: 2016 The Piceance Creek Basin in northwestern Colorado contains extensive oil shale deposits that produce natural gas and which could potentially yield ~1.5 trillion barrels of shale oil. However, much of the oil shale lies at depths too great for traditional mining practices and various innovative approaches for in situ conversion of kerogen to oil have been proposed. A firm understanding of the existing hydrogeochemistry is needed as resulting mineralogical changes or rock-fluid reactions may affect rock porosity and permeability. Using an existing database complied by the USGS, the water chemistry of 267 surface and groundwater samples in the Piceance Creek primary drainage basin have been evaluated by mapping major ion concentrations and mineral saturation indicies with respect to hydrostratigraphic units and geologic structures.
