The Selkirk was built in Wenatchee in 1899 and was owned by the Columbia & Okanogan Steamboat Co. She was wrecked at Rock Island Rapids in 1906. In the photograph we see her near a bend in the river. On the opposite shore is a low riverbank which quickly gives way to abruptly steep mountains, sparsely treed with conifers. Billowing clouds of smoke emerge from the ship's smokestack, but the reflection in the water and what looks like a line from ship to water on the right of the photo suggests that she is moored, or at least moving slowly.Several male figures are visible on upper and lower decks. It looks as though there is a cabin on the far bank. Four flat rocks are centered in the middle, surrounded by rocks lined up in ascending order of size. "Observing" the design are two unique standing sculptures, which appear human-like with rock heads and column bodies. Grass surrounds all of the rocks, and there is a dwelling in the background. The Third Eye Theater created by Olympia Washington artists, Dorbe Holden, Gary Webb, and Mark Osbornes (collectively "Stone Studios") is an arrangement of naturally formed Columnar Basalt and Andecite stone. The stones define the area as a gathering place, an impromptu stage for children and adults. The playful arrangement is highly interactive connecting the user with the sculpture by inviting them to step from stone to stone, riding the undulating curves of the stepping stone/seats. The viewer is also invited to engage and interpret the stone people that surround and approach the stage. These stone figures are suggestive of age and personality roles but ultimately their simple presence depends on the viewer to use thier imagination and create the personality and character that reflects their own experience. Children love this sculpture and enjoy dressing the stone people with props to further define their character. The figures also represent guardians that watch out for the surrounding community. These grounding ancient stones define a sacred site that intrigues and stirs the imaginations of people of all ages. The ground it stands on, and that of the bluffs that rise up behind it and follow the line of the river, is dry with small scrubby bushes. At the extreme right edge of the picture, part of a wooden wagon wheel can be seen, and its dark shadow shows it is a sunny day. In the center of the picture, a few feet from the tipi, sit two figures wrapped in dark plaid blankets. They are sitting on the edge of the bluff above the Umatilla river, and to their right there seems to be a path that would lead over the edge of the bluff. The cabin appears to stand on a small rise; deciduous trees are visible off to the left, and grass and low shrubs behind. In the background is a view of a river and distant shore. The cabin is built of rough-hewn logs, slightly notched, with chinking. Some of the chinking between the logs has chipped away in some spots. The roof is constructed of wooden shingles, some of which appear to be peeling or flaking. The cabin looks as though it has been modified from an earlier state: there is a heap of rock at the gable end, in front of an opening now blocked with boards. The roof at that end has a gap left, as though for a chimney; it seems likely the remains of the chimney are the rocks on the ground. The door too may have been modified; in the photo the door jambs are wide boards nailed over logs, rather than fitted in with them. The door now takes up half the long side of the cabin, and is ill-fitting, with two wide doors with hinges that open outward and wide gaps under both doors.
