Year: 1945, 2006, 2005 KP-1098-R2 - Klamath Project - Tule Lake Division - Modoc Unit; Excavation on the construction of the lateral is proceeding by use of an Osgood dragline. The west bank seen in the left of the picture has been completed and the channel is seen between it and the ridge of dirt shown in the center. To the left the dragline is excavating a puddle trench under the east bank section of the lateral for the purpose of breaking up subsurface cracks which extend down as much as three or four feet. The two plowed furrows on the right side of the picture are used on the edge of the cut for the drain. A portion of the upstream side of Gerber Dam is shown on the left. Fourteen inches of ice had to be cut through to gain access to the water. The purpose of this winter dive was to examine the interior and exterior of the trashrack structure located some 35 to 51 inches below the ice, at a time when water visibility was the best. As it was, visibility was limited to less than six inches. Note ropes on divers.
