In addition to delivering a platform SDK, another goal is to support verification and validation of the SoC, and deliver the software within the schedule to maximize value to the company. It will be managed by a project manager who will assign duties to teams. The return on investment however is difficult to ascertain given that a lot of these projects and installations are broken down in no time after they are carried out. For example, the most prevalent mode of supplying water in rural sub-Saharan Africa is through handpumps, with about 60,000 of such handpumps installed in Africa annually. It is however estimated that a third of these handpumps are non-functional at any one time. The result is a myriad of issues including, but not limited to costs of repair, health and environmental challenges, and simply a waste of billions of invested money and resources. While methods of data capture and analysis such as occasional surveys and spot checks to ascertain levels of operation and functionality have sometimes been useful, a new school of thought which proposes the use of mobile-enabled data to capture and analyze operational performance of rural water supply projects presents an interesting dimension in global development efforts. This paper presents a literature review of some of the efforts aimed at promoting the use of mobile-enabled data to improve water availability and service delivery. The factors that have influence on the functionality and sustainability of rural water supply projects are also highlighted from the review while making a case for the use of mobile-enabled data as a more credible alternative for the sustainable management of rural water supply projects. General Electric (GE), one of the leading producers of refrigerators in the world is being modeled as the manufacturer of choice because they possess the diverse technological know-how to improve this product. GE was chosen as the model manufacturer because they exhibit the forward thinking traits and large business diversification to prepare a technology roadmapping study. This paper will utilize technology roadmapping to create a plan for how GE could focus their effort and resources in their refrigeration business unit to develop a refrigerator in the future which will harness the market drivers to capture more of the market share. Technology Roadmapping is collaborative process first developed by the CEO of Motorola and allows to experts and researchers in the field of study to determine the market drivers, technologies, products/components, and resources. These items are put to a time line during the iterative initial steps then are connected through links. The benefit of using this method in this study is that it allows many different market drivers that consumers have to develop a refrigerator that largely meets those needs. In essence, GE wishes to find out the market pull to develop technologies that push consumers more towards their refrigerators. This study will show that technology roadmapping can be successfully used to create a plan of action over a time span of only 20 years that will integrate existing refrigerator technology and identify gaps in those technologies. The purpose of this research is to forecast the future of R&D in these three countries. Because R&D is changing rapidly, particularly in China, understanding where they will be in the future is of interest to the scientific, academic, government and business segments of each country. Our research consisted of gathering industry standard measures of R&D from 1996 through 2009. These measures are as follows: R&D spending as a percentage of GDP (total government, industry and universities), researchers per million inhabitants, number of patents granted each year, number publications each year and total number of graduates in all programs in thousands. We gathered and logged the metrics for each year from 1996 through 2009 and used the historical data to forecast future positioning of R&D in these countries. An overview of each country is provided in the introductory portion of this paper. After capturing a large portion of the Smartphone market share and leading the market in sales with its Galaxy S-series, Samsung will be introducing a different Smartphone that will incorporate the flexible screen technology “Galaxy Skin”. This incorporation of the flexible technology will enable Smartphones to be bendable, unbreakable, more power efficient, low weight and smaller in size. The paper introduces Samsung in general and analyzes its strength and capabilities of developing such products. Afterwards, the study covers the market demographics by sizing the total market, and the segmentation of the available market. The analysts then drill down into the market needs and investigate the target customers who have pressing need for such product. Surveys and interviews were conducted to capture the customer’s voice. The findings indicate that customers ranked the battery life to be the most favored feature followed by the flexible screen. Moreover, the analysts developed a marketing plan of the Galaxy Skin—which involved value drivers, CRTA, TALC, competition analysis, 4P’s and sales forecasting for the post launch two years. Furthermore, the price of Galaxy Skin is not yet announced, but the analysts estimated the price to be $725 based on the customer and competition analysis. Due to the secrecy practices and confidentiality that Samsung is following, the researchers of this paper had to make some assumptions such as those related to budgeting.
