The student population at the charter school has been growing over the last few years, and with increased classroom size there is a need to optimize scheduling to minimize the cost to operating the school. The charter school was informally founded by parent volunteers in 1974 and became a 501(c)(3) in 1994. Its mission is “To enhance the diverse strengths of our youth and families in partnership with the community through cultural identity and education.” Operating as an academic institution, the charter school additionally offers a variety of social services outside of education to the community. These services support topics of domestic violence, housing, and employment, to name a few. The key problem that this work is to address is that the school is experiencing staff scheduling while maintaining an optimal classroom size that supports the mission of the organization. The problem is compounded due to the increase in student population which has been expanding in recent years. The current scheduling tool is done manually and is labor intensive to implement. There is a lot of trial and error when creating the master class schedule, as well as teacher and room availability. The charter school aims to balance out the type and level of a class when building the schedule. Individual student schedules are created based on their needs. A student advisor reviews their transcripts to determine what credits they have completed, and creates a schedule based on their needs to obtain a high school diploma. If a student has goals to pursue higher education, those are taken into consideration as well when creating their schedule. This individualized approach to scheduling students into classes is one of the reasons why existing class scheduling programs used by the local school district does not work for the charter school. The research objectives of this paper looks to develop a model to assist with teacher and student scheduling. The model developed and research results are expected to act as a pilot program for the charter school and could be implemented at other charter schools as well. However, TA is often criticized that the decision-making process is not transparent - leaving stakeholders wondering if their contributions were heard. Furthermore, the methods have limited capability for conducting tradeoff analysis between the organizational objectives and conflicting stakeholder perspectives that can result in unintended consequences. Finally, these methods are static making it difficult to update and reassess decision alternatives when new information about issues becomes available. This dissertation research addresses these problems by developing a new technology assessment methodology using Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping (Fuzzy Cognitive TA - FCTA). This novel approach supports both stages of the process: capturing expert and stakeholder perspectives in cognitive maps, and then using FCM for assessment and decision-making. The methodology shows how experts and stakeholders perceive the value or harm of a technology alternative, which stakeholders share the same perspectives, and how these perspectives change over time. The methodology also shows the degree to which expert and stakeholder perspectives are in support or in conflict with the organizational objectives to help avoid the direct and indirect consequences associated with the decision. Finally, the methodology shows how new or changing perspectives by experts and stakeholders affect the outcome of the decision to improve system knowledge. The research applies the FCTA methodology with a real-world Environmental Impact Study conducted by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). BPA is a U.S. federal agency that provides about a third of the electric power and 75 percent of the high-voltage electric transmission in the Pacific Northwest. Although it may not seem obvious at first, all values that the consumer receives through using a product, whether tangible or intangible, do not happen by accident. All aspects of a product are built in by design. This is possible because of the intangible factors of the design process and implementation itself that a design team can utilize. The intangible design process is defined by three major layers: the knowledge layer, the emotion layer, and the experience layer. Each has different aspects pertaining to them that not only make them important, but also connect them to each other in order to create the intangible value that the consumer realizes through consumption. The problem is that no one prior has created a model for intangible design, and thus unnecessary sales and market share were lost. Before, during and after consumption the consumer also develops brand loyalty, brand identity, and brand imagery. It is evident that this will increase traffic congestion especially in the urban areas, which will bring economic, safety, environmental and quality of life challenges. There are various organizations looking for possible solutions to reduce the impact of future congestion by long term planning, most of these studies don’t take into account emergence of disruptive technologies. The concept of a connected autonomous vehicle (CAV) is an emerging technology [3] which may contribute to the solution of this problem through adoption. This paper aims to shed light on effect of different levels of CAV adoption on congestion through scenario planning with fuzzy cognitive mapping. Different future scenarios on CAV adoption based on research and development being done on CAV technology are run through a fuzzy cognitive model of congestion developed through detailed literature review. Results indicate CAV adoption provides an opportunity for reducing congestion. Therefore suggesting, investing in CAV enabling upgrades of existing roads, and giving incentives for CAV adoption, is a viable option for city planners’ and local governments’ project portfolios to reduce congestion. The situation gets even more compli- cated when we talk about virtual teams where the teams are located in geographical locations miles away from each other. Even though wis- dom tells us to get a book on 101 ways to de- velop trust in virtual teams, it is not as easy as said. It is not just about building trust, one has to sustain it. Trust plays a very important role in a team's performance. A study was conducted in order to analyze the importance of cer- tain key factors in developing trust in vir- tual teams. The study was conducted in two phases. The rst phase consisted of three in- dividuals with prior or current experience on working in virtual teams. They were inter- viewed in order to create the basis for the second phase of the study. The responses from the three individuals were assessed and a rating survey was conducted on an en- tirely di erent sample group which consisted of twenty nine professionals across multiple organizations. Our results suggest that com- petency and frequency of communication are among the most important factors for building trust in virtual teams whereas cultural di er- ence and geographical location were among the least. According to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Office of the Actuary, National Health Statistics Group; U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis; and U.S. Bureau of the Census U.S. the national health spending in 2011 was just over $2.7 billions. This was about 17.9% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which was $15,076 billions [1]. The national health expenditure will keep increasing and according to a study done by the center for Medicare and Medicaid services it will reach $4,638 billions by the end of 2020 and that about 20% of the U.S. GDP that will be $17,775 billions by the same year [1] We can see form all of that data that health care expenditure will keep increasing and we have to take some advantages of Telemedicine applications that reduce the cost of healthcare for long term. Also, Telemedicine has many advantages in reducing the medical errors, and saving time for both patients and physicians. From table-1 bellow we can see the U.S. population keep increasing year by year and during the last decade it increased from 282 millions in 2000 to 311 millions in 2011, which is more than 9% during the same period. And from the same table we can see how the healthcare expenditures increased almost the double in the last thirty years ago between 1980 (9.2%) to 2011 (17.9%).
