Newton is a veteran of 4 1/2 years in the Army with 3 1/2 years of service overseas in the Southwest Pacific as a Technical Sergeant. He served for a while with the 41st Division and finished his service as an instructor in an Officer's Candidate School in Brisbane, Australia; June 25, 1946; Photo by J. E. The Klamath Project produces such an abundance of potatoes that at times the market could become glutted if they were allowed to enter normal marketing channels. Therefore, it becomes necessary to find other uses for this abundance. This starch drier is part of a starch glucose converter plant being constructed at Hatfield, California near the Oregon State Line. This machinery was shipped from Laurel, Miss., where it was used for the conversion of starch from sweet potatoes. This machinery is part of a surplus government plant which was purchased by local interests; June 25, 1946; Photo by J. E. This spray is composed of sinox weed killer mixed with a 50% wetable DDT solution. This mixture kills both noxious weeds and insects from one application of spray. Noxious weeds are rapidly becoming a nuisance in the Klamath Project and measures are being taken to curtail their growth; June 26, 1946; Photo by J. E.
