Two stories, of brick or stone, with a crenellated roofline across the front and wrapping partway around the sides of the roof, it sits on a high foundation near the river. The ramp leading to the entrance has been braced with a stone retaining wall. In the window of the studio are displayed a number of photographs. The deck runs around at least two sides of the building. To the left is a wooden false-fronted building with the painted word "Persian" visible, and beyond that what looks like a large house. Various houses, yards, and buildings are visible. At the right of the photograph is a railyard, with a large water tank at far right and a smaller, taller one closer to the water. At least three segments of trains are on the tracks: one is on the outskirts of town, and a few other railroad cars are visible on two different tracks amongst the buildings of the railyard, including a boxcar with an open door and a round tanker car. In the distance beyond the town, the line of the railroad tracks and the line of a road parallel each other just above the river bank. The eye can follow them a long way down the river, past a landscape which with its treeless bluffs on both sides of the river looks barren and deserted. On the hill above them runs a line of telephone or telegraph poles which continues down into and through the village. In the foreground of the photo beyond the boulders at the edge of the hill from which the photo seems to have been taken is a house and yard (with the corner of another yard showing). Two privies or outhouses are visible at right. In the center a person in a hat and jacket stands next to a pile of firewood. Behind the person is a water pump in the yard. This house has a lean-to or shed which is roofed with tar paper and has a stove pipe sticking out. Other wooden houses, and some fenceposts, are visible through the scattered trees in the town. She points to her left with her right arm upraised and index finger outstretched. Her costume consists of a geometically decorated hat shaped like a tuncated cone, a fringed leather dress with geometric beading, and moccasins with floral beading at the ankles. She wears a number of metal bangle bracelets and what looks like a brass arm band. In her left hand she holds the string to a geometrically-beaded rectangular bag which has circular shapes made of up joined triangles, dark shapes on light bag. Over her shoulders runs a striped band which is attached to the cradleboard she wears on her back. Although the design cannot be seen clearly in this photo, what can be seen resembles almost exactly similar photos of cradleboards with bold floral designs. Attached to the cradleboard is a dark geometrically-decorated piece of cloth or blanket which acts as a hood for the baby. All that can be seen of the baby is the right side of its head, as the rest is engulfed in the bag of the cradleboard. The tipi a few yards behind her seems to be covered with woven mats, and has several long poles on the outside as well as the inside framework. Leaning upright against it are several boards and branches. Close behind is a line of low trees or high bushes, and to the right of the photo a criss-cross of lines that might be from a fence or other structure. The woman's pose is upright and self-assured as she gestures.
