Once completed their numerous customers will be able to make purchases from the varieties of sports products they offer them from their convenience and have it shipped anywhere they might be located. To the client organization, the successful completion of this project will enable them reach more customers by adding the modern day increasing online shoppers to their customer base, increase their annual sales volume, reduce current and future cost of erecting and maintaining multiple physical store infrastructure as well as decongesting the existing facilities. Their financial projection for the first year after integrating the online sales is estimated to be a 30 per cent increase in the previous year’s annual revenue and 22 per cent increase in annual profit. To our organization this project is line with the kind of projects we do, will add to our experience curve. Also, the profit of accepting this project will increase our revenue. The return on investment however is difficult to ascertain given that a lot of these projects and installations are broken down in no time after they are carried out. For example, the most prevalent mode of supplying water in rural sub-Saharan Africa is through handpumps, with about 60,000 of such handpumps installed in Africa annually. It is however estimated that a third of these handpumps are non-functional at any one time. The result is a myriad of issues including, but not limited to costs of repair, health and environmental challenges, and simply a waste of billions of invested money and resources. While methods of data capture and analysis such as occasional surveys and spot checks to ascertain levels of operation and functionality have sometimes been useful, a new school of thought which proposes the use of mobile-enabled data to capture and analyze operational performance of rural water supply projects presents an interesting dimension in global development efforts. This paper presents a literature review of some of the efforts aimed at promoting the use of mobile-enabled data to improve water availability and service delivery. The types of opportunities generated were based on the team’s familiarity with the possible solution and the team’s familiarity with the need the solution would address. To begin this opportunity identification process we created a scope statement that would guide our process. Based on the scope statement combined with the team’s previous knowledge and experiences we began to brainstorm possible opportunities. The opportunities brainstormed ranged from automotive tool improvements, travel accessories to innovative home products. We found that some opportunities presented needed more detailed explanation than others due to the lack of familiarity and the diversity of the team. By the end of the process we had a pile of scribbled drawings and notes that represented a vast number of ideas. As a team we were able to agree upon six products which showed promise of future success that meet the limitations of our scope statement. These six products were then presented to our “board of directors” who then voted on each one to further create a quick tournament structure to identify the potentially exceptional opportunities. The opportunities identified as exceptional ones were the drink carbonation cap and the suitcase customization kit. Both these opportunities met potential customer needs that were represented in our team. As a team after mentally developing both of these opportunities through discussion and more sketches we agreed that the drink carbonation cap was the opportunity to proceed with. What should be the target market for proposed design concepts? Who will be the competitors and how fast are they moving forward in terms of performance improvements? Ultimately, is the current design concept and targeted launch date feasible and competitive? To answer these questions, there is a need to integrate the product benchmarking with the assessment of performance improvement so that analysts can have a risk measure for their R&D target setting practices. Consequently, this study presents how time series benchmarking analysis can be used to assist scheduling new product releases. Specifically, the proposed model attempts to estimate the "auspicious" time by which proposed design concepts will be available as competitive products by taking into account the rate of performance improvement expected in a target segment. The empirical illustration of commercial airplane development has shown that this new method provides valuable information such as dominating designs, distinct segments, and the potential rate of performance improvement, which can be utilized in the early stage of new product development. In particular, six dominant airplanes are identified with corresponding local RoCs and, inter alia, technological advancement toward long-range and wide-body airplanes represents very competitive segments of the market with rapid changes. The resulting individualized RoCs are able to estimate the arrivals of four different design concepts, which is consistent with what has happened since 2007 in commercial airplane industry. In addition, the case study of the Exascale supercomputer development is presented to demonstrate the predictive use of the new method. The results indicate that the current development target of 2020 might entail technical risks considering the rate of change emphasizing power efficiency observed in the past. It is forecasted that either a Cray-built hybrid system using Intel processors or an IBM-built Blue Gene architecture system using PowerPC processors will likely achieve the goal between early 2021 and late 2022. This indicates that the challenge to improve the power efficiency by a factor of 23 would require the maximum delay of 4 years to reach the Exascale supercomputer compared to the existing performance curve. Smart grid also replaces aging utility technologies that are becoming increasingly unreliable, as the average ages for many critical components in utility systems now exceed their original design lives. However, while smart grid offers the promise of revolutionizing utility delivery systems, many questions remain about how such systems can be rolled out at the state, regional, and national levels. Many unique regulatory and market structure challenges exist, which makes it critical to pick the right technology for the right situation and to employ it in the right manner. Technology Roadmapping may be a valuable approach for helping to understand factors that could affect smart grid technology and product development, as well as key business, policy and regulatory drivers. As emerging smart grid technologies are developed and the fledgling industry matures, a critical issue will be understanding how the combination of industry drivers impact one another, what barriers exist to achieving the benefits of smart grid technologies, and how to prioritize R&D and acquisition efforts. Since the planning of power grids often relies on regional factors, it will also be important investigate linkages between smart grid deployment and regional planning goals. This can be used to develop strategies for overcoming barriers and achieving the benefits of this promising new technology.
