Once completed their numerous customers will be able to make purchases from the varieties of sports products they offer them from their convenience and have it shipped anywhere they might be located. To the client organization, the successful completion of this project will enable them reach more customers by adding the modern day increasing online shoppers to their customer base, increase their annual sales volume, reduce current and future cost of erecting and maintaining multiple physical store infrastructure as well as decongesting the existing facilities. Their financial projection for the first year after integrating the online sales is estimated to be a 30 per cent increase in the previous year’s annual revenue and 22 per cent increase in annual profit. To our organization this project is line with the kind of projects we do, will add to our experience curve. Also, the profit of accepting this project will increase our revenue.   Citation × Citation Citation Abstract Copy Title: Team Journal Captivator Author: Thorsvik, Andrew, Penmetsa, Srujana, Weaver, Sharon Year: 2014 As a newly formed team we began our process of developing a new product by identifying potential opportunities, or ideas for a new product. The types of opportunities generated were based on the team’s familiarity with the possible solution and the team’s familiarity with the need the solution would address. To begin this opportunity identification process we created a scope statement that would guide our process. Based on the scope statement combined with the team’s previous knowledge and experiences we began to brainstorm possible opportunities. The opportunities brainstormed ranged from automotive tool improvements, travel accessories to innovative home products. We found that some opportunities presented needed more detailed explanation than others due to the lack of familiarity and the diversity of the team. By the end of the process we had a pile of scribbled drawings and notes that represented a vast number of ideas. As a team we were able to agree upon six products which showed promise of future success that meet the limitations of our scope statement. These six products were then presented to our “board of directors” who then voted on each one to further create a quick tournament structure to identify the potentially exceptional opportunities. The opportunities identified as exceptional ones were the drink carbonation cap and the suitcase customization kit. Both these opportunities met potential customer needs that were represented in our team. As a team after mentally developing both of these opportunities through discussion and more sketches we agreed that the drink carbonation cap was the opportunity to proceed with. Some critics question whether this is truly a revolutionary industry management methodology, or does it have origins deeply rooted in alternative methodologies that have existed for decades in other industries such as concurrent engineering? The evolution and integration of DevOps into the technology and software industry has had a significant impact on the approach industry leaders take when investing in the components of their technology teams. There is a larger focus on communication and the rate of information transfer between the departments and functional groups. Companies use projects today more than ever before as a method to achieve the many complex goals in line with their missions. Project managers play a key role as they are ultimately responsible for all phases of projects. In spite of the extensive effort and resources that are devoted to the development of project management, projects are still failing at a surprising rate. To combat this issue, the education and training of project managers needs to be evaluated for strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to ensure it suits the needs of today’s industry demands. Our research and analysis includes a survey of ranking project management skills from an industry point of view, research into existing project management curriculums at universities throughout the nation, and a review of literature related to project management education. We look for important aspects of PM training that can support or recommend the current university project management certificate curriculums. Through analysis of industry feedback, literature findings and project management curricula, we discuss the important aspects of project management curricula and provide a recommendation for a curriculum suited to the industry. Our findings suggest that a major weakness in existing training methods lies in a lack of focus on transferable soft skills. We discuss the cause and effect of this issue, and suggest some critical changes that should be implemented. The specific skill that we propose for Project Management curricula is an increased focus of soft skills.
