Technology creates continuous change and opportunity, but also presents challenges and threats in many aspects of daily life. Because of the need to mitigate risks while optimizing opportunities, managing engineering and technology has become a priority for companies, organizations, governments and individuals. The Internet of Things (IoT) is one result of this constant evolution of technology. It describes a system where items in the physical world, and sensors within or attached to these items, are connected to a global network of items via the Internet. Progressive cities that have embraced technology in their development have also helped develop the concept of a Smart City, an integrated urban system based on smarter infrastructure driven by technology. Our aim in the team project is to analyze, using a technology management approach, different ways that IoT will help improve urban transportation efficiency in smart cities, traffic management and parking. We conduct a literature review and a multi-criteria analysis based on the STEEP perspectives. Additionally, we will provide suggestions on promising practices to help cities improve transportation efficiency. Through our research and analysis of literature, we conclude that effectively leveraging the promise of IoT in smart cities, with respect to traffic management and parking, urban planners and policy makers must include the following activities: identify current technology and trends in parking and traffic management; identify problems or challenges that need to be solved through the integration of IoT and urban mobility planning; identify primary considerations from each of the STEEP perspectives; and communicate how effective management, (of the STEEP perspectives), plays a crucial role in successful implementation of smart city growth. They were expected to read through prescribed text books and research material, prepare and present the concepts discussed in them in front of the class. Along with this the teams were expected to work on a project related to team building and communication. Also the team is expected to document and submit a team process report that is the team’s self-analysis and assessment of what and how the team learnt in their endeavor to produce the various deliverables during the “Communication and Team Building” course in the winter term of 2015. The below process report depicts the journey of Team 3 as they came together and synergized their efforts to develop the conceptual and then practical framework of team and to apply the learnings from the class to produce high quality deliverables as part of the course curriculum. The team referred to several resources to outline some of the cultural issues that impact communication. A survey was conducted by the team by contacting several employees of organizations with global workforce. The responses were analyzed and its details have been shared in this project. We estimate by the end of year 3, we can capture 50% of this market and sell 4.5M Leak Detector units annually, generating $320M in total annual sales and annual profits of $63M. We are also optimistic because the Leak Detector is a strong competitor, due to the strength of the Lyric and Honeywell brands, and its wifi capabilities. In the next three years, we will cross the chasm from early adopters to the early majority by enhancing the development of our product (e.g. connecting better to an ecosystem), innovating in our manufacturing to reduce the unit price, and by distributing through the right channels (directly to customers, popular online retailers, home improvement retailers, and influencers, such as insurance companies, plumbers and major appliance retailers).
