Founder John Weisinger had the lifetime dream of starting a small artisan winery and fulfilling his passion for wine making. He chose the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon to realize that dream. The first steps toward that goal began with the planting of Weisinger's vineyards in 1979. John and the family spent many summers in the vineyards, tending the young vines. In 1988, the winery and tasting room were built. Today, Weisinger’s wines and the business have evolved into a celebrated destination in the Rogue Valley where you can enjoy a quality wine experience, see the beauty of the surrounding valley, and learn why the Rogue Valley is such an exciting place to grow and produce artisan wines. Weisinger’s is located fourteen miles north of the California border and four miles south of the downtown center of Ashland. Kohnert’s vineyard, later managed by Randy Gold, is used in Weisinger’s Petite Pompadour Bordeaux blend. Kohnert, one of the pioneers of Rogue Valley viticulture, was known for producing the best Bordeaux grapes in the valley at is vineyard established east of Ashland in 1983, where he planted six acres to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Semillon. Kohnert kept meticulous records of his vineyard’s climate and production, replacing one clone with another to improve quality. Sharing his experience with others, he continually strove to improve winegrowing in the Rogue Valley.
