China and Viet Nam are increasingly emerging as processors and suppliers of value-added products to world markets, but also within the world’s various regions new players are emerging and markets developing. On the supply side, the aquaculture sector is becoming a major factor in product innovation and price determination with it share of total supply for human consumption quickly approaching 50%. In this paper, the authors presents an overview of world supply and trade flows with a particular emphasis on the impact of globalisation on developing country producers and exporters. Finally, a reference is made to the multilateral and bilateral trade system within which the fisheries sector is operating.
